Neighbourhood Stories Grants

Neighbourhood Stories Grants

An important part of the HAZ regeneration programme is telling the stories of the people who live and work in the area or who have a memory of, or connection with it

Neighbourhood Stories projects will uncover, interpret and celebrate the many histories of the Trinity Triangle area, by working with a broad and diverse group of local people and community groups.

Successful projects will lead to an increase of public interest in the heritage of the area: both the built fabric and the people who make it up, and make its history relevant to the area today.

We want to hear from you

We want to hear from groups whose experiences and views are often under-represented in more formal histories.

If you represent a group of residents who could be supported to get involved in a cultural or other activity, please get in touch, we’d love to help.

Types of activities we could support

  • Eligibility (for example location, nature of proposed works, relevant documents supplied, compliance with procurement requirements, etc)
  • Demonstration of ability to match fund works
  • Reminiscence projects: Walks in familiar areas, memory box projects to trigger memories, heritage interpretation signage
  • Waymarking through local walk
  • Public art; historic street maps, murals developed with local artists and residents
  • Art and photography exhibitions
  • Performance: Concerts, poetry events, local author readings, street performance incorporating local story telling
  • Drama workshops based on the area’s history
  • We are keen to hear your new creative ideas

Decisions will be made by our partners board informed by an independent panel

Decision making criteria

  • Benefits a significant number of people within a relevant group or groups in Hastings & St Leonards
  • Ability to provide match funding (in money or time)
  • Relevance to the heritage of the Trinity Triangle HAZ area
  • Impact on other HAZ objectives such as appeal to visitors, economic benefits, or community benefits
  • Will the activity leave a legacy?
