Pigeons and plants – the main culprits of damage to built fabric in the Trinity Triangle

Routine maintenance, if not completed regularly, can lead to extensive damage to the fabric of buildings. This leads to high repair costs, disruption to the residents and businesses in the Trinity Triangle, and deterioration of the condition of the neighbourhood.

The Maintenance Club, with support from Historic England, is helping to develop a coordinated response to this problem:

  • Helping owners and tenants of buildings in the Trinity Triangle to maintain and improve their buildings, finding ways to make that easier and more affordable via collaboration.
  • Organising an annual inspection and ‘Winter Clean’ which completes routine maintenance at height for free for its members.

Jericho Road Solutions launched the Trinity Triangle Maintenance Club in spring 2021. The maintenance issues that are resolved annually include clearing blocked gutters and hoppers, removing plant growth and pigeon nests, as well as painting and preserving the historic tram-line rosettes.

We hope more proprietors will join us in taking pride in their buildings and the Trinity Triangle.

“I hope that more owners join the maintenance club and join us in taking pride in the buildings in the Trinity Triangle for the benefit of everyone who lives and works in this unique and historic part of Hastings. It’s so much easier and more affordable to stay on top of regular maintenance and avoid big disruptions and expensive works in the long-run.” – Polly, local business leaseholder
